Project: Ending Violence Against Women & Girls through Technology

This is a training and mentorship project that will help community women and girls learn to coordinate support, record, and report about Gender based violence and Maternal Health Using Open source technology.

We need 94 community Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) officers trained to support women and girls in our target communities on protection from GBV, reporting, case filing and maternal health information, at least 4 cultural/community leaders, and 4 law enforcement officers. These will be able to support community desks to process cases faster, document better, and provide tailored services for survivors in communities we work with.

Why Technology?

It is easier to document anything safely but also faster. Even the clinical evidence gathered can be safely secured using technology. More than 65% of cases of defilement do not proceed to court because of lack of credible evidence. Those that see the light of day go through agressive measures to get convictions. Many Survivors of VAWGs had a mobile phone close by at the time of their abuse but couldn't use it before or even after the incident. They had no knowledge of that and only knew how to call for help but rather not record prior or after the incident. There's agressive evidence of lack of satisfactory information on credible cases of violence against women that technology could solve. In Uganda for-example, ISP's are not able to provide proof that there was protection of minors at the time of purchase of a SIMCARD. The age to acquire a SIMCARD is as similar to that to acquire a National ID. The laws in place are barely operational and perpetrators continue to inflict long-lasting scars on survivors.

Progress on technology

Advancing women in technology through education

Dr. Busonga represents efiug at the series of Radio talkshows on how to use the AskMe App to report cases of Pregancy, Violence Against Women and Maternal Care.

Online Safety

Child Online Safety

We continue to educate young people/ children of the benefits, challenges and safety issues of using the internet. We have grown champions in communities including school environments where aggression is both by teachers and students. Children are becoming more aware of how to explore the internestt safely and how to report suspicious activities to people they trust.
